We are a community-led gathering place inclusive of all First Nations people to connect with mob, connect with culture and promote self-determination.
Our primary purpose is to provide community with a culturally safe and nurturing environment in which First Nations people can connect to country, culture and build identity.
Our Committee of Management is working tirelessly to achieve the goal of becoming a fully independent Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, which implicitly recognises the strength, expertise and right to self-determination by Indigenous communities.
Barrbunin Beek Gathering Place, meaning “Happy Place” in Woi-wurrung Language, is a place primarily for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to come together, in a socially, culturally, and physically safe space. It provides an opportunity for people to connect to culture, community and space. An important part of our culture is the practice of art through a range of mediums including song, dance, painting, weaving and making of tools amongst many others. Through the practice of culture Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s wellbeing and resilience is strengthened and enhanced.
During Banyule Open Studios; Barrbunin Beek will be opened for community to experience the breadth of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artistic expression with works on display and makers, artists and creators showcasing their talents from the space.
